Abstract

In the second quarter of 2011, although some first-quarter orders were pushed back to the second quarter because of the Sandy Bridge chipset defect and branded desktop PC vendors showed aggressive demand in order to tap the enterprise replacement market, growth momentum slackened in comparison with the previous quarter as demand remained flat in the European and North American consumer market and branded motherboard manufacturers were cautious about shipments. It is estimated that the overall shipment volume declined 2.5% sequentially to around 33.02 million units. Meanwhile, benefitting from the increase of order prices and the growth of new product shipments, ASP (Average Selling Price) rose to US$46.5 in the second quarter. However, owing to shipment volume declines, the overall shipment value dropped 1.6% to about US$1.54 billion.
